Love Never Fails

A while back I was reading through blog posts about wedding photography, most likely on Digital Photography School, when I came across this great picture of a ring resting inside of a book with the shadow of the ring creating a heart on the pages.  It was a really neat picture and I loved the concept so I decided to make my own variation on this picture.

I dug out my Bible that probably hasn’t seen the light of day in years and found the one passage in the Bible that I actually enjoy, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, quoted (and slightly translated here):

Love is patient, and love is kind, it is not jealous or prideful, love is not rude, it is not selfish, it is never angry, it is not happy with evil, love is not happy with lies, but rejoices in the truth. Love never gives up, love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…

It’s a good passage, and read a lot at weddings, so I figured this would be a great passage to try and focus on while creating the heart shadow from the ring.  My only problem was I didn’t really have any rings to use for this, so I had to bust out my high school class ring.  Not perfect, but it works.  So I set up the shot and the results can be seen here:

Love Never Fails...

Not too bad for a first try.  I have a wedding coming up in November that I might try this shot on.  The technical details for the shot are: Vivitar 285HV directly behind the ring and Bible at 1/4 power.  1/2 CTO gel to add some warmth.

A few little things can make this shot better, but overall I am very pleased with how it turned out.
